Celebrity haunt that welcomes everyone

SOME people join clubs in order to have somewhere to hold meetings when they are in London.

I have never really seen the point, as good hotels in the capital like their reception areas to look busy and have all the facilities you want for the price of a few cups of coffee.

My own favourite meeting place is One Aldwych. Its location is central without the hassle of having to get into the West End or the City. It is much loved by celebs, yet comfortable and welcoming to all.

It has a buzzy atmosphere but good acoustics allow you have decent conversations. Service is impeccable, and delicious food in the two restaurants makes this a good venue for business breakfasts and lunches.

The hotel also offers more formal facilities in the form of six sophisticated rooms. Catering for between five and 100, they feature original modern art and cutting-edge technology, and can be customised for product launches or City results.

A wonderful small private screening room below ground level has walls lined with blue silk and 30 leather seats — more can be put in on request.

The services of a technician are included, so that all you have to do is hand over the company presentation on a laptop.

Good for: everything.

But: not for those who prefer antiques and faded grandeur.

Sample prices: £79 day delegate rate.
