The chief executive of Collagen Solutions is being replaced but will stay on in a new role as part of a board overhaul.

The biomaterials manufacturer said that Stewart White, one of the founders of the business, is moving to become its chief scientific officer.

Collagen Solutions also said it is on course to post revenue of £3.2 million for its current financial year, ahead of the £2.8 million that had been forecast.

It put the improvement down to greater global sales, with dedicated teams in place across Europe, Asia and North America. Jamal Rushdy, who joined as chief business officer in November, will become chief executive at the AIM-listed company.

The American held senior roles at Tornier, an orthopaedics and biologics specialist, as well as at other medical device companies in the US.

Collagen, which supplies collagen for research, medical devices and regenerative medicine, said Mr Rushy has more than 20 years of experience. He will continue to be based in Minneapolis.

Mr White will be in charge of research and development while also looking at further commercialisation of the company’s existing products.

That will include the assets of ChondroMimetic, a knee implant business, which were acquired in September.

David Evans, chairman of Collagen Solutions, thanked Mr White for his tireless efforts and said in his new role he will “bring focus and leadership to our innovation platform.”

Mr Evans said he had been very keen to retain Mr White’s talents and he expects the move to lead to the expansion of its current plant in Glasgow.
