SPARROW GIVES SCUNTHORPE LIFT

Scunthorpe United picked up three points for the first time this season by winning 2-0 away to Gillingham last night. Richard Hinds opened the scoring after 38 minutes at Priestfield Stadium and Matthew Sparrow added another before the break.

A penalty converted by Lee Trundle spared Swansea City’s blushes in a 1-1 home draw with Yeovil Town at the Liberty Stadium. Marcus Stewart gave the visiting side the lead soon after the interval from a corner taken by Chris Cohen, but Trundle levelled the scores in the 61st minute.

Rotherham United remain bottom of the table after losing 2-1 at home to Northampton Town. Alan Knill’s side, who started the season on minus 10 points, having been penalised by the Football League for entering into a Company Voluntary Agreement with their creditors last season, took an early lead when Dave Hibbert headed in a cross by Delroy Facey in the sixth minute, but Scott McGleish turned the game on its head with two goals after the interval.

McGleish, the former Charlton Athletic forward, levelled the scores in the second half and then headed the winner from close range in the 80th minute.
