OLD TONBRIDGIANS, the winners of the Cricketer Cup for the past three years, were defeated by Old Malvernians in the second round on Sunday. In a low-scoring match, the 2004 finalists won by two wickets.
The most notable individual achievement in the round was an unbeaten 186 from Robert White, the Northamptonshire batsman, for Stowe Templars. They defeated Uppingham Rovers by seven wickets, reaching a target of 261 in 27.3 overs.
Martin Walters struck 92 for Harrow Wanderers, but a total of 220 was insufficient to bring about victory over Repton Pilgrims, for whom Alexis Twigg made an unbeaten 86. Oundle Rovers were granted a walkover against Old Brightonians, who failed to raise a team.
Old Merchant Taylors recovered from losing their first six wickets for 23 against Marlborough Blues, but a total of 154 for nine was not enough to prevent them losing by six wickets.
Shrewsbury Saracens defeated Old Alleynians by four wickets thanks to a fine all-round performance from Rob Hillman, who made 60 and took three for 42.

Eton Ramblers were unable to defeat Bradfield Waifs; they needed seven off the last over but fell two runs short. An innings of 62 by James Adams, the Hampshire opener, could not prevent Sherborne Pilgrims from losing to Charterhouse Friars by 40 runs.
