The blessed spirit belongs to Gluck, a pivotal composer in opera’s development. In January, Ian Page’s young British troupe ransacked the treasure house with delightful results in a Wigmore Hall concert. And here it is, with Sophie Bevan wonderfully anguished in her aria from Alceste, Anna Stéphany darkly dramatic, and Ailish Tynan sometimes squally, but not in her number from Paride ed Elena. The sound balance makes Page’s group feel a bit distanced; a pity, because they’re incisively suave.
