Christmas fare

Sir, According to your report (“Christmas lunch will fly 84,000 miles to your table”, Nov 20) a single 450g bag of runner beans flown from Zambia produces two tonnes of CO2.

This would require burning about 500kg of carbon in one form or another. But the beans cost only £1.98, so there must be some really cheap fuel available somewhere.

Sir, Your festive carbon footprint gives Brussel sprouts a low CO2 reading of 5kg for collection and distribution from Kent.

Has anyone calculated our own individual contribution to greenhouse gases produced from eating and digesting such Christmas fare?
