China Europe International Business School

CEIBS focuses on educating the managers and senior executives of companies that are doing or plan to do business in China

China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) was established almost 13 years ago by the Chinese Government and the European Commission. It places a particular emphasis on educating the managers and senior executives of companies that are doing or plan to do business in China. Its main campus is in Shanghai but it also has offices in Beijing and Shenzhen.

Vital statistics. The programme includes 14 core subjects, including statistics, economics and ethics; a choice of electives, including the option of specialising in marketing or finance; and a practicum. International students are also required to study Chinese. The average student of the 18-month full-time MBA, which is taught in English, is 30 with a GMAT score of 688 and at least two years’ management experience. Tuition for the programme beginning in 2007 costs $29,800 (£14,800).

Rankings. CEIBS is ranked first in Asia and 11th worldwide in the ft.com global ranking 2007, and first in China in surveys by Forbes China and BusinessWeek China.

Work experience. The practical component of the course is a seven-week group consultancy project. Most of these are in Shanghai-based multinational companies, but opportunities are available in other Chinese cities and abroad. International experience. Approximately 40 per cent of MBA students take part in CEIBS’s overseas exchange programme, while 80 international students come to CEIBS in return.

Employment record. Ninety-nine per cent of MBA graduates found work within three months of completing the course. There was a 159 per cent increase on the average alumni preMBA salary within two years.
