A mere 20 years since her debut, Gainsbourg’s follow-up is sleepy, witty, French MOR. Perhaps unsurprising considering it was recorded with Air, while Jarvis Cocker provided the lyrics. Gainsbourg intones rather than sings, and there are some smart arrangements, sometimes referencing her father Serge’s best known songs (notably the excellent The Songs that We Sing). The epic Everything I Cannot See also grabs the attention.
