Highlights of the year include advising the private equity company TDR Capital and the billionaire businessman brothers Zuber and Mohsin Issa on the real estate aspects of the acquisition of Asda from Walmart. The deal valued the supermarket chain at £6.8 billion.
The firm also acts for Nike, advising on some of its highest-profile marketing agreements, including a recent kit supply deal with Liverpool FC.
It successfully represented Guy Colegate, a former employee of a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, in defending charges of international bribery in Italy. The charges related to the acquisition of a Nigerian offshore oil prospecting licence in 2011. At the end of a two-year trial Colegate, 12 other individuals and the energy groups Eni and Shell were acquitted of all charges relating to alleged corruption.
In April Charles Russell Speechlys joined forces with the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants and seven other law firms to launch a pro bono initiative helping Windrush victims to apply for compensation from the UK government.
