Caroline Wozniacki has won the Malaysian Open, beating Alexandra Dulgheru to take her first WTA title of the year. The Danish player lost the first set, but then rallied to take the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in one hour, 50 minutes.

Wozniacki, who was the top seed in Malaysia, conceded a service break in the third game to lose the first set, which was interrupted by rain. However, she took control of the next two sets and she did not concede a further break point.

The 24-year-old was delighted to take the title, the 23rd of her career, following her loss in the final of the ASB Classic in Auckland in the first week of the season, and tweeted: “Woohoo!!Title #23, couldn’t be happier!”

Wozniacki, a former World No 1, has now won all three of her matches against Dulgheru, having also beaten her in the round of 16 at the Qatar Open last month. The Romanian had beaten Jarmila Gajdosova, the No 4 seed, in a thrilling match yesterday which lasted more than three hours, to make the final.
