Campbell family has €11m stake

Campbell Catering Service is 90% owned by the giant American catering company Aramark.

The accounts for the company, one of the largest caterers in the country, state that the family received a 10% holding in Campbell Catering Services last year.

The holding was valued at €11.3m, valuing the entire business at €113m.

The accounts also show that Aramark paid more than €50m to the Campbell Bewley group to secure 45% of the company in 2004.

Campbell Catering, started by Patrick Campbell in 1967 with just one school dinner account, posted pre-tax of €3.6m in the year to September 2005 on sales of €126.2m.

The company, which has 3,000 employees, is estimated to control up to 46% of the contract catering market in Ireland.

Publicly quoted Aramark was last week purchased by a consortium of private-equity firms including Goldman Sachs for $6.3 billion (€4.9 billion).

One of the world’s largest food service companies, the Philadelphia-based company has annual sales of $11 billion and employs 240,000 staff in 20 countries.
