Buying British

Sir, The best way to support the British car industry is not necessarily to buy a British car (letter, June 12).

With factories all over Britain churning out many makes of Japanese and French cars, a true British patriot can buy a Honda, Nissan or Peugeot with a clear conscience. However, the buyer of the traditionally British Range Rover is sustaining employment in Germany, as they have BMW engines from Munich.

In a global market, car manufacturers are more interested in cost issues than pariotism. So are most purchasers.

Yours faithfully,

BEN ASHWORTH,

22 Meadowfields, Blackburn BB2 4JH.
