Over the past year BTO’s construction team advised a professional services practice on its appointment as lead consultant on the delivery of Green City in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. The idea is to create a sustainable, eco-friendly neighbourhood that will give residents of the overcrowded city a better standard of living and provide a blueprint for green cities across Africa.

Closer to home, the team successfully pursued a claim for unlawful termination of a contractor’s employment for the construction and refurbishment of sports facilities in central Scotland.

BTO also acted for the majority shareholders of a Scottish company trading in China in a complex dispute that involved firms in the UK, China, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Cayman Islands and Germany. The case stands out because of the number of cross-border issues and total value of transactions involved — about £55 million.
