Browne Jacobson has grown its footprint, opening its first overseas office in Ireland in 2022. The Dublin office developed a technology, media and telecoms practice focusing on digital transformation, data and intellectual property.

The firm followed that venture by opening its first office in Wales this year, demonstrating a commitment to the Welsh market and its public sector clients, which include the government and Natural Resources Wales.

It was appointed by the Welsh government to advise on the setting up of the Renewable Energy Developer programme, which will support the delivery of a significant pipeline of large renewable energy projects on public land.

It also advised the environment expert Suez on the acquisition of its former waste management business — Suez R&R UK — from the French-headquartered company Veolia for an enterprise value of £2 billion.

Browne Jacobson has maintained its reputation for promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in the legal sector. It has topped the Social Mobility Foundation’s employer index for two consecutive years and is the only law firm to have led the rankings.

It also became the first law firm to partner with the O Shaped movement, an initiative founded by the the former Network Rail general counsel Dan Kayne, to create a “more human” legal profession. It is based on a framework of five “O competencies” (optimism, opportunistic, originality, openness and ownership) to create a well-rounded lawyer.
