Brook powers his way to 27th victory in Sheffield

Hatton on the receiving end of unanimous points decision as opponent puts himself in line for world title fight

KELL BROOK extended his undefeated run to 27 fights by defeating Matthew Hatton unanimously on points in Sheffield.

In front of nearly 10,000 hometown fans at the Motorpoint Arena, Brook added the IBF International welterweight to his WBA Inter-Continental title.

The 25-year-old floored Hatton at the start of the ninth, but could not knockout his Mancunian opponent.

"We are going to go on to bigger and better things now," said Brook. “My class told. The fans were amazing and I enjoyed the pressure. I’m only human, so of course I felt some nerves. But I absorbed them and used them to my advantage.

“I always knew he would be a game, tough guy, but tonight numbers one and two in Britain got in the ring and I proved I’m number one. No-one can touch me at this level now, it’s on to a world title fight.”

A cagey opening saw Brook bloody Hatton's nose with a sharp jab in the first round. Hatton refused to be shaken by the blow and mounted a solid defence against his lively opponent in the second and third rounds.

Brook inflicted further damage in the next round as he began to pick up the tempo, but Hatton hit back at the start of the sixth before Brook started to dominate.

By the halfway stage, Brook had thrown nearly 100 punches more than the man from Manchester and it was starting to show on Hatton's face.

Brook finally floored Hatton with a left-handed counter-punch at the start of the ninth, but Hatton came back at him once again, connecting with a solid uppercut at the start of the tenth.

Brook had the crowd on their feet in the 11th when he stepped up his aggression and had Hatton reeling but he survived to see out the round.

In the final round, Brook looked for a spectacular finish, driving Hatton across the ring, but he had to settle for the points win with the judges scoring it 118-109, 119-108 and 119-107.
