Sir, I do wonder what evidence the Home Affairs Select Committee considers when making statements about the immigration cap (letter, June 29). When my firm sent me to work abroad I was granted a limited residence permit and subject to a condition that my firm would train a local person to take over my position.
It is beyond belief that we cannot produce qualified people in this country. In the rare cases where we simply do not have that skilled person, then surely we should work very hard to train someone from our own stock.
