Brewers agree deal for Bitter & Twisted

Edinburgh-based CBC will keep the Alva brewery and plans to expand as it markets Harviestoun’s Bitter & Twisted brand throughout the UK.

Stephen Crawley, the managing director of CBC, said the move came about because Harviestoun, which was started by Ken Brooker, fitted “perfectly” within its range.

“The success and growth achieved by Ken Brooker mirrors that of Caledonian,” he said. “Caledonian’s own beers have grown rapidly. Over the last two years, Caledonian has developed an excellent national sales and distribution network. We will make sure that lovers of quality beer will benefit from the increased availability of these superb Harviestoun products.”

The companies are said to have been in talks for the last few months.

Brooker, who produced Harviestoun’s first brew back in 1985, said: “Caledonian know the industry inside out and are passionately committed to producing quality cask-conditioned beer. I couldn’t have wished for a better scenario. Crawley added: “We will keep the Alva brewery in full production and are delighted to retain the skilled workforce.”
