Boutique of the week: TCS, Bath

TCS, 3 York Buildings, Bath

The noteworthy interior of this West Country boutique is matched by an inspiring choice of niche labels and covetable homeware. TCS was established in Teddington in 1996 by Jules Winstanley but has recently relocated to the mix of independent bars and eateries of George Street in Bath. TCS does not follow trends, as demonstrated by the timeless whitewashed walls and floors of the two-storey Victorian building and its collection of period furniture. Instead the focus is on beautiful fabrics, wearability and the individuality of its shoppers. “Detail and accessories are very important to me,” Winstansley says. “Finishing touches complete an outfit in an individual way.”

Pieces include simple, wide-cut cotton trousers by LABO.ART from Berlin, chiffon tops gathered at the neck by Antipast and metallic loafers handmade in Italy by Marsèll. “I have narrowed down the designers to those that I love working with each season — both the collections and the people,” Winstanley says of her tight edit of labels. Long slouchy dresses by Italian designer Kristensen du Nord are new for autumn/winter and the large cotton cashmere scarves from Robert Cary-Williams make perfect transitional pieces. You’ll also find homewares, including Astier de Villatte ceramics and 100 per cent French linen sheets by Béatrice Laval, and fragrances, including unisex perfumes by Goti from Italy, showcased in grand cabinets.
