March’s Book Club live discussion will now take place on Monday April 11 at 8pm.

Welcome to The Times online book group. Think of us as an online version of your local book group - discussing one book a month with fellow Times readers and our Books desk. There’s no commitment at all; you can dip in and out as you like.

Next week, we’ll discuss whether Elena Ferrante lives up to the hype: we have been reading My Brilliant Friend, which is the first book in her series about Lena and Lila, two girls from Naples who grow up in 1950s Italy.

About Elena Ferrante
Elena Ferrante is an unusual literary sensation: she is regarded as one of the best contemporary novelists and yet incredibly little is known about the author behind the Neapolitan Novels, which have been a mainstay of the bestseller charts for the past year.

The secretive Italian writer refuses face-to-face interviews and reveals precious little of her private life, which is refreshing in an era where self-promotion is king. The novels have been championed by writers from Zadie Smith and Alice Sebold to James Wood and Jhumpa Lahiri.
