Sir, You report (Aug 26) that the technique for speeding or slowing the clock where Big Ben is housed involves adding or removing penny coins to the weight at the bottom of the pendulum. This is not so. The optimum place is at the junction of the middle and lower thirds. Adding them to the top or bottom would have no effect.
