Bond boundaries

Sir, I, too, have seen Casino Royale (letters, Nov 27, etc) and was surprised by the number of children under 12 attending the 8pm showing, accompanied by adults.

It was not the sex and violence that were inappropriate for them to witness, however, but the hard-to-follow plot, the impenetrable gambling sequences, the sophisticated conversations between Bond and his “girl”, the mumbling actors and the number of “false” endings. Despite these defects, I still enjoyed it but those children must have been bored stiff.

Sir, What disturbed me was the pre-film advertising. When I saw the new Bond film both online gambling and alcohol were promoted. These were not suitable for children and their displayed classification confirmed this. Why is advertising not confined to the classification of the film it accompanies?
