SIR PETER GERSHON will join the board of National Grid as deputy chairman next month, then succeed Sir John Parker as chairman in January. Gershon, 63, is chairman of Tate & Lyle, General Healthcare, Vertex and a member of the UK Defence Academy Advisory Board and HM Government Efficiency Board.
Stephen Billingham joins Punch Taverns as non-executive chairman in September after the proposed demerger of Spirit. Billingham, 53, formerly finance director at British Energy and WS Atkins, is a non-executive at Urenco and chairman of Fountains. Chris Bell, 53, a former chief executive of Ladbrokes who is chairman of Game Group and a non-executive director at Quintain Estates, will become a non-executive director of Spirit.
Tim Weller is to succeed Keith Roberts as chief financial officer of Petrofac, the oil services supplier, in October. Weller, 48, who joins Petrofac in September, chief financial officer at Cable & Wireless Worldwide since May 2010 and at United Utilities before that, is a non-executive director of the Carbon Trust and of BBC Worldwide.
Ralph Crosby has joined Serco as a non-executive director. Crosby, 63, chairman of EADS North America, is a non-executive director of American Electric Power and Ducommon in the US.
Alan Ferguson joins Croda International, a speciality chemical maker, as a non-executive director. Ferguson, 53, who was chief financial officer at Lonmin until last year, is a non-executive director at Johnson Matthey.

Mike Hussey has been appointed by Taylor Wimpey as a non-executive director. Hussey, 46, chief executive of Almacantar, a property developer, formerly ran Land Securities’ London portfolio, has been head of leasing at Canary Wharf and a partner at Knight Frank.
Chris Masters is to join Speedy Hire as a non-executive director. Masters, 64, a former executive chairman of Aggreko, is a non-executive director at Crown Agents, Alliance Trust and Wood Group.
Peter Hickson has joined UK Coal as a senior independent director. Hickson, 67, chairman of Anglian Water until 2009, is chairman of Chemring and Communisis .
Rory Macnamara has been appointed as a non-executive director of Sporting Bet, the online bookmaker. Macnamara, 56, a former head of advisory/M&A at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and head of UK coverage at Lehman Brothers, is a non-executive director at Private Equity Investor, Augean, Essenden and Mears.
Emma FitzGerald will join the board of Cookson, the materials science group, as a non-executive director from August. FitzGerald, 44, joined Shell in 1992 and is vice-president, global retail network for Shell International, as well as a trustee of the Windsor Leadership Trust.
