Board Moves: Co op settles on new chief

RICHARD PENNYCOOK has been appointed chief executive of the Co-operative Group six months after the resignation of his predecessor Euan Sutherland.

Pennycook, 50, finance director since June last year and then chief operating officer, spent eight years in the finance role at Wm Morrison Supermarkets.
■ Isabel Hudson will join the telecoms giant BT as a non-executive director from November. Hudson, 54, who was previously an executive director of Prudential Assurance, chairs the National House Building Council and serves as a non-executive director of Phoenix, the closed life and pension fund consolidator, and QBE Insurance in Australia, as well as the Pensions Regulator.
■ Jeremy Stafford has been appointed as chief executive of John Menzies, the aviation services provider and print media distributor, from next month. Stafford, 52, was most recently chief executive of Serco UK and Europe.
■ Kath Durrant has been appointed as a non-executive director by Renishaw, the engineering company, from January. Durrant, 47, was most recently group HR director of Rolls-Royce and sits on Lancaster University Management School’s advisory board.
■ Carolyn Bradley and Catherine Glickman have been appointed as non-executive directors of the brewer Marston’s from next month and December respectively. Bradley, 50, group brand director at Tesco until last year, held many senior roles, including UK marketing director, at the supermarket chain, which she joined in 1986. Glickman, 56, HR director at the biotechnology company Genus, was group HR director until 2012 at Tesco, which she joined in 1991.
■ Sir Richard Friend has joined Oxford Instruments, the provider of hi-tech tools and systems for industry and research, as a non-executive director. Friend, 61, is Cavendish professor of physics and a fellow of St John’s College, Cambridge.
■ Charles-Henri Sabet joins London Capital Group as executive chairman with immediate effect. Sabet, 52, was founder and chairman of Synthesis Bank Geneva, which was sold in 2007 to Saxo Bank, where he was appointed chairman and head of global trading of Saxo Group, before becoming a director of Global Investments Opportunities Management.
