Bluebells in May

Although usually thought of us woodland flowers, a visit to Dartmoor showed carpets of bluebells on the moorlands

Sir, I, too, had thought of bluebells as woodland flowers (letter, Steve Davies, July 2). A visit to western Dartmoor in May last year showed I was quite wrong. Not only were there carpets of bluebells under the lightest of cover provided by stunted moorland trees, they were also growing thickly on open slopes without trees. Mr Davies should take heart; the Wye Valley may not lose its bluebells after all.
