Sir, Vituperative blogging (LA Notebook, Feb 7) serves no purpose other than as a display of ignorance and which, unfortunately nowadays, allows that display of ignorance to be read by many.
Do I blog? Yes I do, and I get a buzz from seeing what I have written, often about something in The Times or on television that I have disagreed with. There is much wrong with the world, so there are plenty of concerns to blog about.
Before blogging, when I disagreed with something, I just had to seethe in silence. However, a period of calm reflection would often resolve my anger about what I had seen or read and I had to admit my ignorance about the circumstances and facts of the report that had offended me.
I am coming to the conclusion that access to blogging and the internet may ultimately require some form of control, although I cannot imagine how that could, or should, be done. We all need to be informed and this is best achieved by responsible journalism.
