Sir, It is right to condemn the Church Commissioners for “asset-stripping” in relation to the proposed sale of such episcopal residences as Rose and Hartlebury castles (letter, June 21). The obvious solution would be for such buildings to be offered to the National Trust, provided that the Church Commissioners can be persuaded to offer endowments for the palaces in question.
