The footballer John Terry, the England and Chelsea captain, endured a weekend of two halves: relief that England have an easy group in the World Cup next June in South Africa and dismay when he led Chelsea to defeat against Manchester City on Saturday, was injured and had to leave the ground on crutches. The centre back has been captain of Chelsea since 1998, and is the father of three-year- old twins George and Summer Rose. John Terry is 29 today. RGT
