Sir, The drunken man swinging from a high-voltage cable (report and picture, Nov 21) did not require the power to be off to avoid electrocution.

He would have survived, as do birds on power cables, because he was not touching the footbridge or the ground and so did not make an electrical circuit. One small error could have killed him.
