Malvinder Mohan Singh’s accession yesterday to the post of chief executive of Ranbaxy Laboratories marked a return of the founding family to the helm of the pharmaceutical company after an absence of six years.
Formerly president of the pharmaceuticals division, the 33-year-old executive has been in training for the post since his father, Parvinder, died in 1999. His appointment came on the day that his younger brother Shivender joined the board as a director.
An economics graduate of St Stephen’s College in Delhi, Mr Singh also has an MBA from Duke University in the United States.
He joined Ranbaxy in 1994 as a management trainee and worked in various departments. Apart from his professional interests, he enjoys golf, travelling and collecting art.
