Alastair Ross Goobey, who has been appointed chairman of Invista, the property fund manager to be spun out of HBOS’s Insight, is one of the most prominent British fund managers of the past decade.

Mr Ross Goobey, 60, is a senior independent director of GCap Media, a senior adviser to Morgan Stanley and chairman of Hermes Focus Asset Management. He has been an outspoken campaigner on corporate governance and served as chairman of the International Corporate Governance Network between 2002 and 2005.

Married with two children, he relaxes by playing the clarinet and piano and singing. He chairs the Royal Opera House Pension Fund and Benevolent Fund and is a governor of the Royal Academy of Music, which has awarded him an honorary fellowship. He is also a director of the Almeida Theatre.

Mr Ross Goobey has recovered from blood cancer, which was diagnosed in the late 1990s.
