Big Ben’s final hour

Rather than repairing the tower, should we simply replace the clock’s four faces with an LCD screen displaying the time digitally?

Sir, It is estimated that repairing the clock on the tower at the Palace of Westminster could cost as much as £29 million (Oct 19). Would it not be far more economical to replace each of the clock’s four faces with an LCD screen displaying the time digitally, which could be linked to the atomic clock at Rugby for greater accuracy?
