17 of the best hotels in Grenada

From hulking all-inclusive resorts to bespoke service in boutique hotels, Grenada belies its petite size with an excellent selection of hotels

The Times

It’s smaller than the Isle of Man, but little Grenada is a big player when it comes to hotel choice. The majority of the most popular accommodation is located near Grand Anse, but look a little further afield and there’s a great choice of places to stay, from luxe cottages to romantic bolt holes. Prices vary wildly, but wherever you choose, you won’t be far from greenery and the spices that made this island so sought after by colonial forces.

Unsurprisingly, beach life plays a big part in the holiday experience here. Grand Anse is regarded as the most immaculate of all the beaches, but even in the shadow of the airport, Magazine beach has its admirers too. Head to the south coast and you’ll find much smaller sandy stretches, beautiful bays and hotels atop scenic peninsulas. Here’s our pick of the best hotels in Grenada.

1. The Point at Petite Calivigny, St George’s

Best for culinary excellence
Physically and philosophically distant from Grenada’s largest resorts, the Point at Petite Calivigny is a combination of villas and hotel rooms, all of which are decidedly more homely than the Grenadian standard. There are restaurants on site and also a centre of culinary excellence, where visiting chefs tutor young local talent. Elsewhere, you’ll find a new gym, pool, spa and morning yoga classes, as well as a private marina.

2. Radisson Grenada Beach Resort, Grand Anse

Best for spectacular sunsets
Hospitality behemoth Radisson may not seem like a natural fit for a curated Caribbean experience, but decades of experience (and billions of dollars) translate as expertise and, ultimately, comfort at this sought-after spot on Grand Anse beach. Popular with wedding parties, the hotel specialises in activities for its guests, including snorkelling, scuba-diving and kayaking trips. With four restaurants on the property, there’s not much need to explore locally, but there’s a lovely walk to be had along the beach out to Quarantine Point, which is especially striking at sunset.

3. Sandals Grenada, St George’s

Best for all-inclusive choice
To some, being sandwiched between the international airport and a place called Pink Gin beach might sound like a nightmarish way to spend a holiday. However, Caribbean hospitality giant Sandals does little by mistake and they’ve made the most of this spot, squeezing an incredible ten restaurants and six bars into their all-inclusive resort. There’s no shortage of water sports and you can also stay entertained with billiard tables, table tennis, giant outdoor chess, shuffleboard and tennis.

4. Maca Bana, St George’s

Best for the beach
Located in the island’s extreme southwest within virtual touching distance of the international airport, Maca Bana may not appear to be in an ideal location. At least not until you see the sensational Magazine beach, which is rarely busy but among the most beautiful sandy beaches in Grenada. The resort is organised as a series of lovely villas, each using natural colours and design, including on their private balconies. The two on-site restaurants are set just back from the golden sands, too.

5. Lance aux Épines Cottages, St George’s

Best for value
Hanging off Grenada’s south coast, Lance aux Épines has drawn tourists to its scenic peninsula and Prickly Bay for decades. Its 11 cottages represent unusually good value for the island, especially for anyone looking for seclusion and the chance to do some self-catering. If you fancy a meal out, however, the nearby marina has a restaurant. The cottages don’t have a swimming pool, but the calm waters off Lance aux Épines beach are safe and warm.

6. Mount Cinnamon, Grand Anse

Best for sea views
With one of the most sought-after locations on the island, Mount Cinnamon provides quintessential Caribbean views, with the white sands of Grand Anse beach and satisfying turquoise waters lapping in the bay below. Around the property there are 37 villas and suites, all of which come with excellent sea views. Activities organised in its beach club include yoga, paddleboarding and kayaking, though there’ll be plenty of temptation to simply relax on the soft sand instead.

7. Le Phare Bleu, Petite Calivigny Bay

Best for water sports
The south coast of Grenada breaks up into a series of peninsulas and bays and it’s amid that gorgeous jumble that you’ll fine Le Phare Bleu. Some guests choose to sail here and moor in the accompanying marina, but even if you’re not part of that set, much of the resort’s activity is water-focused, including kayak, snorkelling and catamaran tours. The accommodation, meanwhile, is spread over 14 self-contained cottages, all of which can be used for self-catering.

8. Spice Island Beach Resort, St George’s

Best for luxury
There’s an argument that Spice Island isn’t just the best all-inclusive resort on Grenada, but perhaps the finest of any of its luxury hotels, too. With 64 rooms set just back from beautiful Grand Anse beach, it has more to offer than almost any other property on the island, from its well-appointed spa to its water sports centre and Nutmeg Pod activity centre for children.

9. Mount Edgecombe Plantation, Saint Mark

Best for an escape
This singular property is quite unlike any other in the nation. Located in the high northwest of Grenada, distant from any of the usual tourist spots, it remains a working farm. Originally starting life as sugar cane plantation, it later switched to spice, cocoa and coffee. Individual rooms can, of course, be booked, but the seclusion also lends itself to big events, especially weddings. With such fertile soil on site, much of the produce used is grown within the lush grounds.

10. Silversands, St George’s

Best for spa days
If you prefer your beach resorts to have a more organised feel, then Silversands at the north of Grand Anse may well be for you. The decor is organised and clean without being sterile, a look carried all the way out to its remarkable 100m outdoor swimming pool. The spa facilities are also some of the very best on the island, with comparatively elaborate features such as an ice cave and sauna in addition to its treatment rooms.

11. Petite Anse Hotel, Sauters

Best for a boutique break
Situated in particularly verdant tropical gardens, this boutique hotel looks north towards Ronde Island. It’s one of the nicest properties in this part of the island, and with just 13 rooms, you won’t be overwhelmed with the usual tourist bustle. Most rooms have private balconies, sea views and four-poster beds, while the restaurant specialises in Caribbean and European dishes. There aren’t many other dining options in the area, but you’ll not be short of choice.

12. Calabash Grenada, St George’s

Best for foodies
Unusually both a family-run hotel and a member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux group, Calabash has had the same owners for over 30 years, during which time they’ve refined their property to make it the finest on the south coast. As well as the 30 beautiful rooms and ease of access to Lance aux Épines beach, it serves some of the very best food on the island. In the fine-dining Rhodes restaurant, look out for clever uses of local produce such as lionfish.

13. Coyaba Beach Resort, Grand Anse

Best for location
One of the longest-established hotels on Grand Anse, Coyaba doesn’t pretend to be the most luxurious these days, but there’s still no beating its location behind the nation’s most beloved beach. With 80 rooms, it’s one of the larger properties in Grenada and offers a broad range of activities across its roomy grounds, including tennis and shuffleboard. There’s a spa and a large pool, and the hotel can also organise snorkelling and diving trips, including out to the Bianca C, the largest wreck in the Caribbean.

14. Royalton Grenada, Point Selines

Best for picky eaters
With 269 rooms, the all-inclusive Royalton Grenada is the largest hotel anywhere on the island. It’s next to the airport, so you’ll have to bear in mind that there might be some overhead noise, but there’s no shortage of distractions. With five restaurants and six bars, it has the broadest food and drink selection in Grenada as well as direct access to the beautiful Magazine beach.

15. Blue Horizons Garden Resort, St George’s

Best for sustainability
Having been opened in the late 1970s, Blue Horizons may well be the oldest continually operated hotel in Grenada. With all that experience comes an appreciation of sustainability, which is perhaps unsurprising considering just how much greenery is around the property. All the staff are employed from the local area, while the majority of their amenities are environmentally friendly. Birdwatching tours are available around the grounds, while Grand Anse beach is just 275m away.

16. Laluna, St George’s

Best for couples
With small private pools, four-poster beds and only 15 other cottages on the property, this little hideaway is one of the most popular options for couples visiting Grenada. Sunset sailing trips are also available, as are beach yoga classes and weekly open-air movies. If it starts to feel at all claustrophobic, the bustle of the Grand Anse tourist area is a short drive away, though many guests book precisely for Laluna’s peace and quiet.

17. La Sagesse, Corinth

Best for tranquility
You could be forgiven for feeling confused about why there aren’t more resorts in Grenada’s southeast, such is the loveliness of La Sagesse. Located next to a beach and bay of the same name, this one-time royal manor house was abandoned and overgrown by the time it was rediscovered in the late 1980s by the current owners. Today they run it as a very peaceful, budget-friendly boutique hotel with just 12 rooms, where tranquillity is prioritised over luxury.
