TIMES PHOTOGRAPHER JACK HILL

I set off to Stodmarsh aiming to try an experiment, photographing swallows which gather there over the summer. On arrival, I realised it was far too windy for the birds to linger so I had to make another plan.

It is a very attractive spot, mainly reeds and marsh and I thought I would have a look around. Something would turn up. There were lots of ripe blackberries and as I stopped to pick a few I was distracted by a splashing noise coming from behind the bushes.

As I moved around I saw a small opening onto a stream covered in pondweed. Peering in to see the source of the noise I saw a swan paddle past. Click!

I like the variety of greens and a subtle splash of pink in this photograph, and the painterly feel of an elsewhere place.
