Beauty jury: rosebud lips

Pink lips in a natural hue are a key beauty look for Autumn/Winter 2014. We test six lipsticks that come up rosy
Sinner lipstick in Rose, £20, Lipstick Queen
Sinner lipstick in Rose, £20, Lipstick Queen

Sinner lipstick in Rose, £20, Lipstick Queen, spacenk.com
They say: The ultimate full-coverage matte lipstick with 90 per cent pigment. The formulation glides on, mosturises and is fragrance-free, while also being long-lasting to create lips that look and feel beautiful.
We say: The cult status of Lipstick Queen lipsticks is justified. Great to wear, feels soft and doesn’t dry on your lips. Enhances your natural lip colour without the feeling of painting over them with an alien shade. For anyone nervous about wearing lipstick rather than balm, this is a great choice.

Creamy matte lipstick in Pink Nude, £19.50, Bobbi Brown, bobbibrown.co.uk
They say: Combines the look of a classic matte lip with incredible wearability. Creamy and moisturising, it glides on comfortably and feels light-as-air. It also lasts for 8 hours. We’re pretty sure you’ll want more than one colour.
We say: Loved the creamy texture of this very slim stick; it fits into the smallest of clutch bags. I found that the pink nude shade really suited my colouring, and it was the perfect colour to wear throughout the day and into the evening. For a supposedly matte effect stick, I found it quite moist.

Colour sensational lipstick in Delicate Pearl, £6.99, Maybelline, maybelline.co.uk
They say:
Shimmering nudes with lustrous colour, the fresh tones a flattering soft pearlescent, and enriched with honey nectar for a luscious feel.
We say: This wasn’t really the correct shade to give a “rosebud lip” look; it’s a touch too pale. I didn’t find the formula very moisturising; it was a little dry. On young plump lips it could be attractive, but for older smoochers I would recommend Boots No7 to get a similarly priced lipstick with a softer texture.

Lipstick in Bitch Perfect, £23, Charlotte Tilbury, charlottetilbury.com
They say: Protects lips from UV damage and fights oxidative stress so that lips are soft, pert, soothed and hydrated. Also contains light-diffusing pigments that give lips a brilliant, luminous, multi-dimensional finish, capturing the light and reflecting it back out for a full-bodied effect. The lipstick is also easy to use as it glides over the contours of your lips.
We say: Charlotte Tilbury’s makeup is the most beautiful stuff: the packaging can’t be beaten. Bit of a strange name for a shade that is so neutral, but it’s a great colour for making you look a bit more made-up than usual, without screaming that you’re wearing lipstick.

Lippy moisture matte lipstick in Toff, £18, Butter London, butterlondon.co.uk (launching October)
They say: This revolutionary formula hydrates your lips and leaves a luxurious, velvety, matte finish for comfortable long-lasting wear. Irresistible, high-pigment colours make a bold statement and create a flawless finishing touch.
We say: I always find that matte lipsticks need touching up more than glossier colours, but if you’re looking for a truly matte finish, then this is a great one. The square case feels luxurious and the stick has a flat top which I find easier to apply precisely than a pointed bullet.

Rouge Pur Couture The Mats N°207 Rose Perfecto, £25, YSL, yslbeauty.co.uk
They say: Heroic, forbidden, passionate, seductive, scandalous, Rouge Pur Couture The Mats is the radiant and matte shade collection of the iconic YSL lipstick. Its “stretch-leather” texture sinks and blends into your lips, ensuring a matte, sensually sleek finish and colour lasting up to six hours. A palette of six “rock & chic” shades for all skin tones, from red to deep plum.
We say: This is an expensive lippie, but I can see why — the case is luxurious and the colour glides on smoothly. I wouldn’t say it lasted six hours, but it did feel comfortable for a good few hours without any touch-ups. A good one to splurge on. The darker shades are really enticing too.
