Christopher Nolan is rightly proud that his reinvention of the Batman franchise doesn’t rely on CGI to make an impact. Sadly, its computer-generated equivalent is a classic case of style over substance, being little more than a glossy advertisement for the film. It looks and sounds great (all the main screen talents provide voiceovers, and clips from the movie are plentiful), but there is little in the gameplay that grips.
A basic tutorial involves training as Bruce Wayne in the Himalayas, before returning to Gotham City as Batman, but great backdrops are wasted by a lack of imagination in making the game an experience in its own right. One nice touch, however, is the fear monitor that Batman can build up to intimidate his enemies. Fear is the key, you see, but I’m afraid that this is a letdown.
