Banks’s campaign to end slaughter will continue

The animal welfare work of Tony Banks, the former Labour minister who died two weeks ago, is to be carried forward by his widow Sally.

She is to lead a new campaign against the slaughter of baby seals in the Canadian Arctic, a cause for which her husband — who became Lord Stratford last year — cared dearly. The campaign is being organised by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Lord Stratford suffered his fatal brain haemorrhage while and his wife were staying with Brian Davies, the fund’s founder, to discuss the campaign. The announcement coincides with Lord Stratford’s funeral in East London.

Lady Stratford said: “Tony’s death is a terrible loss to me and to the campaign. I am determined to try to fill the gap.”
