Bang go pop ups

Short-term ventures are ‘on the way out’

THE pop-up store craze that sprang to life in the wake of the property crash faces becoming an endangered species on prime shopping streets.

Estate agent CBRE predicts in its quarterly research bulletin that the short-term ventures will find it hard to find retail space in top shopping malls and main streets in the run-up to Christmas. Falling vacancies and increasing unwillingness by landlords to enter into short-term lets does not augur well for temporary gift shops and Christmas jumper sellers.

Tayto, the snack-food company, was among those to cash in on the craze when it opened a pop-up sandwich shop in Wicklow Street, Dublin, in March.
