This year Baker McKenzie advised Aurora Acquisition, a special purpose acquisition company (Spac). Spacs, also known as blank cheque companies, list on the stock market to raise funds, which they use to buy companies. The firm worked with Aurora on its $220 million Nasdaq float and its subsequent merger with Better, a US digital platform that provides mortgage, real estate and homeowners’ insurance, creating a publicly traded company valued at almost $8 million.

The firm also advised the private equity company Intermediate Capital Group on its agreement to fund a new 3 million sq ft distribution centre for Jaguar Land Rover in Leicestershire. The centre, scheduled to be completed next September, will send spare parts to customers in 80 countries.

Baker McKenzie also worked on aspects of the pharmaceutical giant Merck’s spin-off of some of its businesses, including the women’s health company Organon.
