Backers matched with SkillPages

SKILLPAGES, a skills-matching website that rivals LinkedIn, has raised €8m in fresh funding, bringing total backing to nearly €25m.

The bulk of the funds came from a company linked to SkillPages founder Iain MacDonald, according to company filings. MacDonald recently stepped down as chief executive after building the company to more than 24m members.

Roebury Nominees, whose directors include financier Kevin Warren, invested €2m. Bacchantes, a Michael Smurfit investment company based in the Isle of Man, put up €1m.

The other backers include the AIB Start Up Accelerator fund; Smurfit Kappa chief operating officer Tony Smurfit; and serial investor John Gallagher. Paul McGuinness, the former U2 manager, and Trevor Bowen of Principle Management are also shareholders.

SkillPages employs about 50 people in Dublin and Palo Alto. It had losses of €12.4m at the end of 2012, latest accounts show.
