A NEW website and brochure to be launched later this month is aimed at parents of young children who think that a self-catering holiday is too much like hard work.
Baby-friendly Boltholes features child-friendly UK holiday cottages selected because their family-friendliness goes further than merely providing high chairs, travel cots and a box of toys. The properties also feel like grown-up retreats, and most offer in-house catering to give parents a break from day-to-day chores.
A typical example is Pollaughan Farm Cottages in Cornwall. As well as the usual baby paraphernalia, the cottages offer family-sized fenced gardens, and daily animal feeding and egg-collecting trips for children. For parents there are wide, comfortable beds, power showers and freshly cooked evening meals delivered to the door.
Sian Williams, the founder of the website, said: “I wanted an alternative to boutique hotels which might accommodate my tastes but not those of my toddler. The featured cottages provide a stylish solution, with the kind of attention to detail that you would rarely find at a hotel.”
Other holiday homes on the site include North Bradbury Farm in Devon, which offers an on-site restaurant with a baby-listening service, and Coastal Retreats in Northumberland, which has dressing-up boxes, a games room and babysitting.
