A fire has destroyed the former home of Augustus John, one of Britain’s most famous portrait painters. More than 60 firefighters worked through the night to salvage valuable furniture from the 16th-century manor house in Hampshire, where the artist lived until his death in 1961. The cause of the fire is unknown.
