August 30: League Two round up

KIDDERMINSTER HARR (0) 0 WYCOMBE WANDERERS (1) 2

Kidderminster manager Jan Molby: Apart from all the energy we used against Cardiff there was also the disappointment of losing on penalties and we felt sorry for ourselves here. We didn’t look great in the first half but we made changes and looked a lot better.

Wycombe manager Tony Adams: I think we could have killed off the game a bit earlier and that would have taken some of the fear out of it for us. We dominated the first half but didn’t play as well after the break when Kidderminster had a go at us.

Blinder: Clint Easton.

Stinker: Ian Foster.

LINCOLN CITY (0) 1 NOTTS COUNTY (1) 2

Lincoln manager Keith Alexander: We had a go at Notts County in the second half but it didn’t come off. If we had scored early we would have got back into it. We played one or two bits of decent football at times but we must take our chances.

Notts County manager Gary Mills: It’s our first league win of the season, it feels nice and we fully deserved it. Lincoln are a tough side to play here and we had to be disciplined. It was another good performance which showed our level of fitness.

Blinder: Mathew Gill.

Stinker: Jamie McCombe.

CAMBRIDGE UNITED (0) 0 SWANSEA CITY (1) 1

Cambridge manager Herve Renard: We don’t have an experienced striker like Trundle. We can’t bring in someone like him so we must develop. We are not scoring goals but we must stay very strong in our heads. I am a strong person and I can help the players to be like that.

Swansea manager Kenny Jackett: I hope the fans get behind us now we are showing some improvement. The big problem I had to solve was that our play was much too frantic. We set out to slow it down a bit here and it worked for us.

Blinder: Willy Gueret.

Stinker: Daniel Webb.

CHESTER CITY (0) 0 DARLINGTON (2)

Chester manager Ian Rush: Chester City has great potential. It’s my first club and we have a real chance I believe. What I’ve got to do now is get the best out of the players. If people like Michael Owen and Milan Baros are prepared to listen, then why not these players?

Darlington assistant manager Mark Proctor: Hopefully we can continue this rich vein of form in front of goal and take it into Monday’s game. Our approach play has been reasonable over the last few games, but the breaks haven’t come our way, but this result doesn’t surprise me.

Blinder: Stewart Drummond.

Stinker: Joseph Kendrick.

NORTHAMPTON TOWN (1) 2 LEYTON ORIENT (1) 2

Northampton manager Colin Calderwood: I’m slightly disappointed to have only got one point at home again but pleased with the way we came from behind twice. We’ve conceded four goals in our last two league games when we haven’t been under too much pressure and that’s a concern.

Leyton Orient manager Martin Ling: I’m disappointed we conceded two cheap goals and that’s something we should stop doing if we are to be successful this season. We played some good football going forward but Northampton deserved a point.

Blinder: Alan White.

Stinker: Tommy Jaszczun.

ROCHDALE (0) 0 BURY (1) 3

Rochdale manager Steve Parkin: Bury were never really troubled by us and that concerns and worries me. It must be addressed immediately and the players have a chance to prove on Monday that they can play with a bit of passion. I certainly need to see more spirit than they showed in this game.

Bury manager Graham Barrow: I’m pleased with the performance and it’s been coming. It gives our start to the season a respectable look. Both teams had a hard game during the week and it’s a credit to the fitness of our lads that they came out and won comfortably.

Blinder: Danny Swailes.

Stinker: Gary Jones.

CHELTENHAM TOWN (0) 1 BOSTON UNITED (0) 0

Cheltenham manager John Ward: Kayode Odejayi has been excellent and you saw from the crowd’s reaction what they thought of his performance. He’ll get better and better. We are not looking for major miracles from him, just more consistency and that’s what he showed here in this match.

Boston manager Steve Evans: Apart from when we were chasing the game, and when Cheltenham’s big guy got through, we had a lot of the ball and dominated much of the play. We’ll play nowhere near as well as this in the future and get a point or even win. We shouldn’t be leaving here empty-handed.

Blinder: Martin Devaney.

Stinker: Brian Wilson.

GRIMSBY TOWN (1) 2 MANSFIELD TOWN (0) 0

Grimsby manager Russell Slade: I thought we got off to a very good start. It was nice to get an early goal especially with such a busy programme this week. We didn’t play as well as I would have liked but Mansfield came here to stop us playing.

Mansfield assistant manager John Gannon: We got off to a terrible start. Thomas Pinault, who had the shot, normally takes the corners. I could see the danger, but they couldn’t hear me out there. Teams use set-plays as a ploy and you have got to be aware and expect the unexpected. We didn’t.

Blinder: Jason Crowe.

Stinker: Tom Curtis.

OXFORD UNITED (1) 2 SHREWSBURY TOWN (0) 0

Oxford manager Graham Rix: The lad Tom Winters is very positive and when Shrewsbury changed to 3-5-2, I thought it was right to put him on and just get the ball to him. He was on for 45 minutes and had five shots and six crosses in that time, which shows what a player he is.

Shrewsbury manager Jimmy Quinn: That penalty miss summed us up. We gave bad goals away and we had chances to get back into the game but did nothing with them. My players don’t seem to believe in themselves as a team away from home at the moment.

Blinder: Jon Ashton.

Stinker: Sam Aiston.

YEOVIL TOWN (3) 3 RUSHDEN & DIAMONDS (0) 1

Yeovil manager Gary Johnson: We were very good in the first half but I apologise for the second. Eight of the lads played for 120 minutes against Plymouth in midweek and looked a bit leggy.

Rushden manager Ernie Tippett: Two of Yeovil’s goals came after we lost the ball. The players know all about it and we’ll work to put it right. At half-time we said we needed to go out and win the second half. We did that by scoring a good goal near the end but it was too much to do.

Blinder: Darren Way.

Stinker: Alex Hay.
