Arts philanthropy

The Rausings do indeed fund the Palfest, but it represents a tiny proportion of the money given to good causes

Sir, I was surprised to see the Palestine Literary Festival described as one of my “causes” in your article on Arts Philanthropy (April 2). My funding for Palfest represented less than 0.1 per cent of our total funding — even in terms of the arts, which is a small part of what we do. Canterbury Cathedral, the Charleston Trust, the documentary film project of the Holocaust survivor Roman Halter, and Sistema Scotland, the programme to create an orchestra with children from a poor Scottish community, have all received substantially larger grants.
