Are We There Yet?

Director: Brian Levant, US, 90min

Stars: Ice Cube, Nia Long, Philip Daniel Bolden, Aleisha Allen

On general release

Nick (Cube) hates kids but then he falls for Suzanne (Long). Her 11-year-old, Lindsey (Allen), and 7-year-old, Kevin (Bolden), know every trick in the book when it comes to scaring off potential suitors, so when Nick agrees to take the children to Vancouver for new year, drama inevitably ensues.

A cross between Trains, Planes and Automobiles and Home Alone, Are We There Yet? has plenty of lowbrow humour and the best projectile vomiting scene since The Exorcist.

Cube isn’t quite ready to do “vulnerable”, though he makes a surprisingly good rom-com leading man, even parodying his trademark scowl. This is a live action movie with the sensibilities of a Tom & Jerry cartoon. If your inner child is in the mood for an hour-and-a-half of enjoyable puerility, look no further.
