Arch Swing can hold sway in Falmouth

Arch Swing, who did not get the clearest of runs when fourth to Indian Ink in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, is fancied to land the UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Stakes (3.10) at Newmarket today.

Runner-up to Finsceal Beo in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket in May, she should be forgiven a disappointing effort in the Irish equivalent as she pulled muscles in her hindquarters.

Arch Swing would probably have finished second at Ascot with luck in running, despite the softer ground not being ideal, and with conditions in her favour she looks sure to go close. The 9-2 offered by totesport and William Hill rates fair value.

Nannina bounced back to form at Royal Ascot, powering three lengths clear of Satwa Queen in the group two Windsor Forest Stakes. She was unsuited by the slow early pace when runner-up in this race 12 months ago, but that should not be a problem here with the front-running Irridescence and Speciosa in opposition, and she rates the main threat.

Elletelle can complete a notable double for raiders from the Emerald Isle by landing the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes (2.35). She produced a terrific finishing burst to beat Starlit Sands by half a length in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot and, with this return to six furlongs in her favour, can confirm the form with fourth-placed Francesca D’Gorgio, who is now tried in a visor.

The biggest danger is likely to come from another Irish-trained runner in You’resothrilling. A sister to the brilliant Giant’s Causeway, she did not get the clearest of runs when beaten by Nijoom Dubai in the Albany Stakes at the royal meeting and is open to plenty of improvement.

The HBLB Lancashire Oaks (3.45), switched from the abandoned meeting at Haydock on Saturday, can go to Mont Etoile. She has not got her head in front in three starts since landing the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, but shaped really well over an inadequate mile trip on her reappearance at Pontefract when beaten just a short head by Expensive. That should have tuned her up ideally for this stiffer test and she can go one better.

Folly Lodge showed a useful turn of foot to win on her reappearance at Newbury and can defy a 10lb rise in the weights in the Racing Post EBF Fillies’ Handicap (1.30). She can see off Truly Enchanting, who was a fair sixth to Barshiba from a poor draw at Royal Ascot.

Utmost Respect will surely go close in the totesport.com Heritage Handicap (2.00). He looked a sprinter of some potential in winning both starts as a juvenile and is readily forgiven a below-par run on his reappearance at Goodwood as he was persistently denied a clear run and finished full of running in eighth, less than two lengths behind the winner, Dingaan. The form of his defeat of Aahayson at Ayr last September looks extremely solid and, given better luck, he can make amends.

The best bet of the day is Tumbleweed Glory in the Classic FM Handicap (5.30). He is now 5lb lower in the ratings than when a good sixth to Dunelight in a hot handicap at Ascot last July and looked as though he was on the way back to his best when a staying-on fourth to Pintle at Sandown last time. His trainer, Brian Meehan, was going through a quiet spell then, but his stable is firing in the winners now and Tumbleweed Glory can keep up the momentum.
