Ambassador to Iran
Mr Geoffrey Adams has been appointed Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran, in succession to Sir Richard Dalton, who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Adams, 48, is the former Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Consul General (Representative to the Palestinian Authority) in Jerusalem and Deputy Head of Mission in Cairo.

Ambassador to Libya
Sir Vincent Fean has been appointed Ambassador to the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya in succession to Mr Anthony Layden, who will be retiring from the Diplomatic Service. Sir Vincent, 53, is the British High Commissioner to Malta and a former head of counterterrorism policy department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Captain R. C. Hawkins to be promoted Commodore and to be Commodore Joint Air Maritime Organisation in succession to Commodore W. M. Covington, with effect from September 5.
