Apple may have festooned London Tube stations with giant prints of brilliant photos taken on an iPhone 6, but the smartphone maker has recalled its most expensive model after discovering a problem with cameras on some handsets.

The company has responded to complaints from customers who had bought the iPhone 6 Plus model — which boasts an iSight camera that Apple describes as “amazing” — only to find that it took blurry photos.

Apple has claimed that people use iPhones more than any other device to take photos. It confessed to the error in a blog post, blaming a component failure for the blurred pictures.

The problems is confined to models sold between September and January. Consumers have been advised to enter their serial number into the Apple website to see if they need a replacement. The defective phones have been sold around the world.

The rear-facing camera on the iPhone 6 Plus is the defective one. It means that consumers who only take selfies may not have noticed a problem.
