Royal Society of St George

Colonel Geoffrey Jones presided at The Royal Society of St George, Birmingham Branch dinner held at Edgbaston Hall on Saturday night to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo. Mrs Mary Bradley, Chairman, the Rev John Hervé, Chaplain, Honorary Alderman Dennis Minnis and Mr Stephen Hartland also spoke.

MEETING

International Military Music Society

Warrant Officer Gil Singletonwas the guest speaker at the summer meeting of the United Kingdom branch of the International Military Music Society, held at the Royal School of Music, Kneller Hall, Twickenham on Saturday. Mr Colin Dean, chairman, presided.

APPOINTMENTS

District Judges

Michael John Andrew Wood has been appointed a District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts). He will sit principally at Durham Magistrates’ Court.

Ambassador to the Philippines

Mr Peter Beckingham has been appointed Ambassador to the Philippines in succession to Mr Paul Dimond. Mr Beckingham will take up his new appointment in January 2005.

REMEMBRANCE SERVICE

1972 Staines Air Crash

On June 18 a service was held to unveil a window at St Mary’s Church, Staines and a garden opened near the site. Mr Mark Raeside, QC, on behalf of the relatives laid a wreath for his father, Dr John Raeside, and all 118 people who died in the crash 32 years ago. A service will be held each year in the Church and the garden is open to the public to remember the dead.
