Diplomatic service
Miss Helen Horn has been appointed HM Ambassador to Guinea in succession to Mr Alan Jones, non-resident Ambassador. She will take up her appointment in August.
Miss Horn, 42, has held diplomatic service appointments in Warsaw, Dubai, Zurich, Dhaka, Vienna and Johannesburg.

The Army Benevolent Fund
Major-General Sir Evelyn Webb-Carter has succeeded MajorGeneral Michael Regan as the Controller of the Army Benevolent Fund.

Mr David Anthony Stewart Richards, QC, has been appointed a Justice of the High Court, assigned to the Chancery Division.
Mr Richards, 52, was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 1974. He took Silk in 1992 and is approved to sit as a deputy High Court Judge.

British Institute in Paris
Professor Robert Lethbridge, Chevalier des Palmes Académiques, Life Fellow of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, and former Vice-Principal of Royal Holloway, University of London, has been appointed director of the British Institute in Paris from October 2003.

Ms Lindiwe Mabuza, High Commissioner of South Africa, and Mr Bill Tweddell, Deputy High Commissioner of Australia, were the principal guests at a gala dinner of the Securities Institute held last night at the Honourable Artillery Company following its annual Financial Ashes charity cricket tournament.
Mr Dermott Reeve was the guest speaker and charity auctioneer. Among the other guests were Ms Kathi Scott, Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, Professor Charles Pusey, chairman of the National Kidney Research Fund, with Mr Michael Nation, director, and Ms Clare Gore Langton, director of Rathbone Investment Management.
