Americans take stage at Apollo

MARTYN GODDARD / REX FEATURES

The late, great Freddie Mercury, pictured, once graced its cavernous interior, as did the Beatles and the Stones. Now, the Hammersmith Apollo has been sold by HMV to the owner of the O2 Arena. The £32 million sale to Stage C — jointly owned by Ansco Music, a subsidiary of the American magnate Philip Anschutz’s Anschutz Entertainment Group, and a subsidiary of CTS Eventim, of Germany — signals that HMV’s string of live music venues may be sold piecemeal. HMV said that its £220 million bank facility had been extended to September 2014, pending completion of the sale.
